Bus Trip to Kloubec Fish Hatchery
Kloubec is one our suppliers of KOI, shubumpkins and game fish. They are a third generation fish hatchery. You will have a chance to tour Kloubec’s facility on May 24th, walk around their ponds, and have an explanation of the procedure for culling (sorting) of the KOI to achieve the highest quality fish. (There should be eggs in the hatchery at this time of year.) You will tour the quarantine area and the holding/ water treatment facilities. You will even be allowed to purchase fish that day directly from the hatchery and bring them home in their shipping boxes. Cost will be $25 per person with limited seating, so book early.

Spring Cleaning
Spring or fall cleaning is recommended from time to time of your water features and KOI ponds. All filter mats should be thoroughly cleaned and pumps should be inspected to make sure
their in good working condition. No wires frayed and propeller is not worn or cracked. Always give the propeller a small turn before plugging it in to make sure it isn’t stuck. Store fish in an ample amount of water when cleaning pond, and be sure water (use original pond water fish were in) is circulated or aerated so you don’t stress your fish. Pump out water, pressure wash rocks and gravel, cut back aquatic plants, divide or remove plants as desired, remove debris, check for leaks, reinstall pump, tweak waterfalls and stream at this time. Check auto-fill (if you have one), replace lights or install new ones. Refill your water feature and add a dechlorinator
that removes chlorine and chloramines. Start your water feature, acclimate, and release fish. If you opt not to clean your pond, we recommend making sure all debris is removed and you consistently treat your water feature with a sludge digester product.
Spring Tips:
Don’t start feeding your fish until water temp is at least 55 degrees. Start out by feeding them Low-temp food. Medicated fish food is recommended to feed fish in the spring if your fish seem stressed. Low-temp fish food available at retail center
